Highlands Academy classes
Fall 2008 semester: September 10-December 24
Class I: The History of the World (1:00-2:15 p.m.) for children ages 8-13.
With this class we will seek to give a broad overview of the history of the world, as Jesus is about the work of bringing all things
under subjection. We will seek to understand history in light of the perennial battle between the seed of the woman and the seed of
the serpent (Genesis 3:15), and in light of God's sovereign providence over all things.
Texts: A Child's History of the World, by Calvert.
Class II: Introduction to Writing (2:30-3:45 p.m.) for children ages 14 and up.
With this class we will begin to learn how to write effectively to a broad audience. While our focus will be on writing non-fiction
with a goal of persuasion, we will consider the gamut of forms, including poetry and fiction. Students will be expected to write well,
and to write frequently. We will explore as well examples of fine writing from such stalwarts as C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton and others.
We will not have a textbook for this class.
Class registration is $75 per student, $25 for every additional family member.
Meeting place is Pleasant View United Methodist Church.
Click here for the church's website, address and contact.
The age requirements are approximate, based on your child's level of learning.
To register, or if you have questions, call 877-878-2238, or email Dante at info[at]highlandsstudycenter[dot]org.

office to make sure we are meeting, in case of inclememt weather.
